I got a lovely valentine's bouquet. I want to keep it fresh for as long as I can, what should I do with the water? I'm changing it every day, and I heard adding sugar is a good idea.
After that, what's the best way of drying and preserving my lovely flowers?
I really like the guy who sent them, and I want memories.
Thanks!
Preserving Flowers?
the best way to keep this treasure in to take it before it starts to die, tie it like a bouquet, and hang in upsidedown to dry. when it its totaly dry, you can put in in a vase forever.
Reply:Sugar can cause mold, especially in warmer rooms and if the bouquet covers a lot of the vase's lip. My flowers kept fresh for a long by just putting clean tap water in them, and then dried very nicely right in the vase. i keep a very hot room, though, and i have hard tap water.
Reply:Use bleach. Half teaspoon in a small vase, whole teaspoon in a large vase. The ends of the stems should be cut on the diagonal to make larger surface for the water to cover. Some state that sugar works, but it can also cause mold.
