Attaching dried flowers to a page?

I am working on making something for my family. I want to have a frame with a picture and a poem in it. Around the picture and poem I want to attach some flowers. What is the best way to attach the flowers? The flowers will just be on a piece of cardboard or paper. Thanks!

Attaching dried flowers to a page?
You can flatten the flowers, or you can add a thin layer of glue on to a flatter part of the flower and stick it to the paper/card board. Holding it in place. If the stem is still attached, maybe you could staple the flower in place. But I think your best bet would be to use a small dab of hot glue onto the part of the flower that you want on the paper/cardboard, then holding the flower in place for maybe a minute or two.

If you don't have a hot glue gun, maybe using that super glue stuff could help. You know, the stuff that dries in 30 seconds or whatever. You would do the same thing, add a dab of glue to the part of the flower that will be facing the paper/card board, then hold the flower in place as the glue dries and hardens.

To get a hot glue gun you can go to Michael's or any craft store by you.

A mini glue gun should work fine, if you won't be using the hot glue gun a lot, then buying a mini hot-glue gun is fine.
Reply:very small amount of either elmers glue or hot glue from a hot glue gun...not a lot...good luck
Reply:after flattening your flowers, just a drop or two (depending on flower size) of regular school glue will work great.

Turning edible dried hibiscus flowers into tea?

So i need to make hibiscus tea for school... but all i could find in the way of hibiscus flowers was a fruit snack. It's about thirty dried, sweetened flowers, but they aren't bone dry... leading me to believe i can't just steep them. what can i do to make them tea-able? i put them in the oven under like 200 degree heat, and am letting them sit. is this ok?

Turning edible dried hibiscus flowers into tea?
I to am a chef, well former chef, and like th frist guy said about them having the term Jamaica use, I worked in Jamaica, there they are called sorrel flowers, they make a Xmas punch with them.

For your tea, just brew them alone with a bit of honey and lemon juice, or put a few regular tea bag in with them an a dash of sugar, they have a very floral taste, but a bit bitter, so the honey or sugar is needed. Good Luck.
Reply:I don't know where you reside, but here in Southern California, I can't think of an Hispanic Market that doesn't carry dried hibiscus flowers, for the tart/fruity tea called "jamaica" (pronounced ha-MY-ka).......you might want to try some on-line sources, you might want to Google "bulk Hispanic goods" and see what ya come up with.....Best of luck, the tea is very healthful, as it has a lot of phytonutrients and antioxidants in it......Enjoy!!!

What glue will stick dried flowers and ribbon to ceramic tiles?

I want to do a craft project with primary school children where we stick some flowers on the front of the tile and a ribbon hanger on the back. Which glue should I use?

What glue will stick dried flowers and ribbon to ceramic tiles?
this will help you with any gule

Reply:I'm sorry to say, but this is not a good project for children that young. Most glues will fail under the weight of the tile. Their little hands will destroy the dried flowers Why not use artificial flowers and foam core board?

What to do with dried flowers?

I have bouquet of flowers (roses) from my graduation that are already dried up but I dont want to throw them because they represent the memory of an important occasion. How do I manage them? I know some people use them as potpourri but are there other more interesting / creative ideas?

What to do with dried flowers?
Are they still in presentable condition? Then maybe you could use them to make a wreath or dried flower arrangement.

If they're falling apart, try pressing them and make a flat arrangement of the petals and leaves on archival board, like a painting. With the leftover pieces you could make flower cards to give to special people.

Decopage petals onto a wooden box to store keepsakes in.

Press some into a scrapbook, along with photos from your graduation and your school friends.

Good luck!
Reply:You could use them to make a wreath?
Reply:you can have a clear case made for the flowers like the ones that the valuable baseball or footballs are in so they dont get ruined.
Reply:place them between two pieces of glass and seal the edges and use them as coasters.

What do you call sculptures made of fresh/dried flowers?

Guys, what do you call 3D sculptures made of fresh / dried flowers? And does any1 know where i could find some photographs and/or tutorials? Thanks

What do you call sculptures made of fresh/dried flowers?
A fresh or dried flower Sculpture.

Most likely Floral Design.

You will see fresh versions of this done in floral creations or arrangements, done by florists.

Garden Structures would be done by landscapers.

What a great idea! You can see from the answers that you have gotten that you may have hooked into something unique as there is not a lot known or seen about it.

For tutorials; try using floral foam, there is a specific type if you are going to use fresh or dried flowers.

Michael's and Wall Mart carry the one for dried flowers. For the fresh floral foam, go and ask a florist if they could sell you some.

Wrap screen door metal mesh around the shape/form that you want to create.

Puncture the form with a knife in the various places that you intend on using the flowers and insert the foliage and flowers.

Using greenery will help you" Fill In" as a backdrop which helps hides the form Wire, mesh. It is also less costly to use than flowers alone. you may need to make a base in order for your sulpture to stand upright.

You can look under floral design in yahoo and take it from there. There are also courses that you can take.

HGTV is also good.

Hope this helped,

Cheers!
Reply:Hello.

Professionally, you can just call it Installation or assemblage.

The idea is more important that the material that you will be using.

American artist, Jeff Koons had done a huge sculpture in the shape of a giant scottish puppy and also used flowers as materials.

Reply:A float in the Rose Bowl Parade?
Reply:Would they be called dead natures, as the paintings with the same motives are called? that's something new for me. If you refer to those beautiful sculptures with plants the Japanese do, otherwise, it would be called Bonsai.
Reply:art of flower arranging?

Or if you cover a float with it (usually the flowers are attached to a chickenwire covered shape, see first link) then I don't know how it's called, but you find images of it by searching for flower parades.

Or it's just called sculpture, maybe mixed media sculpture if it is used as by Anna Gallacio.

Or if you plant the flowers it's called gardening.
Reply:I have never heard of any specific name or style name for this type of sculpture. You can try websites and books from the library on floral arranging, then take it big for effect.
Reply:I believe it's called a "still-life". Even though the flowers are dead, it is still a still-life. Are you painting, drawing or photographing them or are they themselves the actual artwork? I will find out at school.

How/where can I have dried flowers framed?

I have dried the very first bouquet of flowers that my boyfriend gave to me. I would like to have them framed so that I can hang them in my room. Is this an easy thing that I can do myself? If so, how? Or is there anywhere I can take them to have it done for me? I live in the Southern California area.

Lots of hobby shops sell kits for that.

What is the best way to perserve dried flowers?

i have bunches of flowers that are already dried, but i have to move them, how do i do this without them falling apart, the last bunch i tried to move, all the pedals fell out..help?

What is the best way to perserve dried flowers?
I got this pretty antique looking hat box and put some tissue paper in the bottom, and when I dry out flowers I hang them upside down using a safety pin to poke them at the very end of the stems into the wall over my dresser and when they are dried out I pull on the part of the safety pin that's not in the wall and its like a makeshift handle so you don't damage the fragile flowers.Lay the flowers CAREFULLY into the box with tissue lining then either close the safety pin or pull it out of the end of the stem, fold the tissue paper over the dead beauties and put the lid on.Later if you want to display them, put the box on a nice table, take the lid half off and partially open the tissue paper and enjoy!
Reply:find a box big enough to enclose the entire bouquet or bunch of flowers. cut it out so that it's lengthwise (cut it open on its longest end) get some wire or string and tie it to the end of the bunch of flowers and with your box open, punch a hole in the top and feed the string through and tie. should just dangle in there if done right. then move real slow and leave it where you want
Reply:you can freese them wrapped in silofain

Dried plants & flowers attracts small insects.how can i get rid of this pest?

i dried leaves %26amp; petals before %26amp; saw some very small insects grow in them..i now want to make a wall hanging with dried flowers %26amp; leaves..i am worried the pests will ruin my creation..wot do i do?

thank u everyone..

Dried plants %26amp; flowers attracts small insects.how can i get rid of this pest?
take dried ones and spray transparent paint then paint with bright colours and then apply varnish
Reply:Microwave, then seal with transparent spray paint...
Reply:Try setting up traps, consisting of jar caps partly filled with vinegar and a dollop of dish soap. This will trap fruit flies and may do in your pests as well.
Reply:Those leaves are useless now. Get a new batch and spray them with some nice-smelling insect-repelling scents, like citronella from herbalists or some cosmetics shops works very well, plus it makes your room smell nice too.

PS: DON"T put it on those insect-infested leaves. It'll only make the insects immune. PREVENTION is better than cure.
Reply:I like doing artsie things with plants and stuff from nature and the best way I could think of is after you have your leaves %26amp; pedals dried elaminate them and it won't grow bugs in them.
Reply:Try going to your home n garden store.They should b able 2 help u.
Reply:the microwave thing is the best it will kill the insects and you should be good to go.

Hello everyone!

I recieved a vase full of beautiful roses a week ago. The other plants in my vase are starting to wilt and my roses are starting to! I want to keep the flowers as a memory. Do i keep them in the vase, or do i take them out individually and let them dry out? Do i need to keep them pressed in a book? Also...what are some good projects to with dried flowers such as roses?
